The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided to host the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games in 2021 due to a coronavirus pandemic.

Commenting on the decision of the IOC, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee Chingiz Huseynzadeh said that the hosting of the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics in 2021 should not discourage our national team.

“Of course, the health of our athletes is important. With the determination of our athletes to participate in the Games, the decision of the IOC will not prevent them from continuing their training with greater confidence and enthusiasm. Now we need to look to the future. Azerbaijan Republic and all countries around the world are fighting against the spread of coronavirus infection, and I am confident that humanity will win in this selfless fight. ”

NOC Vice President Chingiz Huseynzadeh noted that the National Olympic Committee supports the activities carried out under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic and the NOC plans to continue its work in this direction.

The NOC official noted that taking into account the health of our athletes as a priority, we will continue to work to improve the level of training of athletes, to promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle, physical education and sports in Azerbaijan and the Olympic movement, and increasing the number of Olympic licenses will be another priority.
