In 2008, National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan decided to shoot a documentary films about Olympic champions. Since 2008, 6 films have been shot: “İlk Qızıl”, “Qızıl Sidney” “Cəngavər”, “Elin Nuru” and “Ertogrul”.

The main purpose of the “Olympic Odyssey” project is unite and collect all the documentary films about Azerbaijan’s Olympic champions. The idea behind it is to increase the motivation among young athletes with the help of successful role models.

Another purpose of the event was to foster interest in sports and develop new goals among the young athletes. The event was organized on the basis of the recommendations of the Olympic Agenda 2020 and was developed by the European Olympic Committee.

The event was held on 30th of March 2018. Chingiz Huseynzade opened the event; and spoke about the aim and history of the project. Then director of the films Arzu Gulamov shared his emotions and stories from background of shootings. Later all the Olympic champions were invited to the tribune and presented with a special “Olympic Odyssey” gift boxes. The Olympians expressed their gratitude and the event was finalized with a group photo.
