In October 26, Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee organized sporting event dedicated to the International Olympic Day at the Republican Olympic Center. The event was attended by the Vice-Presidents of the National Olympic Committee Chingiz Huseynzada and Zemfira Meftakhetdinova, NOC Secretary General Azer Aliyev, Deputy Minister of Science and Education Firudin Gurbanov, Olympians, young athletes, representatives of federations and media.

NOC Vice-President Chingiz Huseynzada opened the event and said: “As you know June was a busy month for sporting events. The European Youth Olympic Festival, European Games and Games of the Commonwealth of the Independent States were held at the time. After coordinating with the International Olympic Committee, we set the celebration of the Olympic Day event for today.”

The NOC Vice-President Chingiz Huseynzada wished success to all participants of the event and then said: “You are really lucky that the Olympic and World champions are with you at this event. Your participation in today’s event in front of them will remain in your memory. I wish you to follow a healthy lifestyle and sport is the best tool. By keeping healthy lifestyle, you will contribute to our country as the citizens of independent and victorious state in the future.”

After the official speeches, entertaining sports competitions took place with participation of the Olympic Culture and Education Program (OCEP) school students. In the first part of the event, more than 200 students and physical education teachers from 10 schools of the capital competed in athletics competitions. Young judo athletes, winners and prize winners of the World, European Championships and European Youth Olympic Festivals participated in the tug-of-war and marry starts competitions with the school students.

According to the final results of the competitions, the team of school N18 won the first place, the team of school N42 took second and the team of school N193 occupied the third place. The winners of the competitions were awarded with cups, diplomas, medals and gifts. Commemorative photo was taken at the end of the event.
